Self Employment Stuckness

Working for myself can have it's major upsides.
Doing the work you want to do. Working the hours that fit your lifestyle.
Chasing after opportunities that interest you.
Getting stuck doing the same thing and struggling to figure out what's next.

Wait.
What?

Running your own business is rewarding. I really enjoy it. But when you're your own boss, it can be very difficult to expand, move on, try new things... you don't necessarily have an R&D department OR the time/money to do the R&D you wish you could.

You get stuck. You get wishing you had more time to adapt, change and be ahead of the curve, not necessarily trying to catch up.
I don't see it as a 'grass is greener on the other side' kind of scenario, but more of a 'I just want more grass to work with' kind of scenario.

Too often I feel stuck and under the microscope of my own employment. It's weird, I know. I'm the boss, but I'm also the employee. As the employee I feel stuck at times. Doing the same thing, not pushing myself to get better at my craft. I find the employee side of me wishing I can take a break from work, so I can get better at different aspects of my job.

You get stuck in a self employment circle of stuckness. There is some self discipline that comes into play, but there is also a time when I think I need to say NO to work, so I can go play with my gear, software and ideas. If you're not growing you're dying.

How do you get unstuck in self employment? I'm still trying to figure it out.
What do you do?

Cheers,
